Background :
Before 2000Km, the S6 (4.2 AEC), timing belts, head seals, etc. ==References==
Now a quiet flap came from the timing belt drive, so the left timing belt cover off and ....the timing belt too loose!
So we did the work again, adjusted everything correctly and thought all the time about what might have caused the loose timing belt. The only thing that remained was the clamping mechanism with the damper.Precautionarily, we changed the clamping lever (the old made minimal noises) and the damper (again new).
Then, as usual, the timing belt is tightened and the damper length is set to 136mm.
So he ran for two days without clapping and earlier at the start : clack, clack, clack
!Now the same procedure and look, the strap is already too loose
!We have now found that the damper is pulled together completely in a warm state and blocked in this position and no longer goes out independently (Annex). This happens with a damper length of about 124mm.
We have tested a total of 3 (!!) new dampers, all of them behaved the same, but are all from the same production date (Original VAG).
We're not the first to set the damper to 136mm?
All parts are original parts, NO CONTIRIEMS or similar. - No, no, no!
All part numbers are correct !
Would it change something if we set the belt to 139mm (allows 136-139mm) ? Wouldn't he come to the blocking area?
Is it a faulty production series ??
Soon we will know more!
