S8: Is that normal?

Hello, friends.

As a long-time V8 driver I have already gained some experience with the pitfalls of the vehicle and the repairs in VAG workshops. Now the unique chance for an S8 was offered and I hit (EZ 01/97, 185,000 km, 15,000 €). Despite the purchase test at the ARBÖ (Öst. At the service in the VAG workshop, the ADAC version now reveals that the left head gasket sweats (light traces of coolant are visible on the head) and that there is an oil loss on the oil tank (but they do not know exactly because they did not wash the engine intelligently before). The KV now amounts to €3,500 for the seal on both heads, ZR, water pump, themostat, oil pump and oil tank seal. As an alternative repair variant, only the seal on one head could be replaced and the oil loss repaired. I'll get to €2,300. None of us in the Portokassa will pay for such repairs, so I wonder what to do? Does it only make sense to change a head seal? Experience has shown that the head gasket still holds any of the described symptoms (in the workshop they give me a span of tomorrow it happens to 100,000 km it can still hold!) Should I still wait for the oil loss (I see traces of oil, but no definite drop formation)? Does the price seem fair or inappropriately high? Questions about questions and so far only expensive answers. But I know from experience that there are some very resourceful and experienced screwdrivers on this HP. So the VAG workshop once wanted to exchange the cats for the exhaust gas values at the V8 but actually only the Lambda was over and I managed to get away with a fraction of the costs due to numerous advice from you. Thank you again! I hope now that someone can help me with my S8 problem. I am grateful for every serious idea!
Best regards from Vienna,
Mario

MFG Peterling!!
